As a result of a
joint initiative of the Chilean and Argentinean Navies, this
international meeting and regatta of Tall Ships was given the
generic name "Velas (Sails) South America 2010".
Considering
the important rol that the oceans play in the development of
these two nations, the maritime authorities have agreed to
jointly organize the 2010 celebrations for both countries in
order to commemorate the Bicentennial Anniversary of such a
patriotic occasion which occurred in 1810.
To give shape to
this important event both Navies have individually assembled
Commissions that will have the responsibility to bilaterally
embrace the challenge of organizing the gathering. As part
of this combined effort other national institutions and civilian
organizations have been called upon to promote the public
awareness of "Velas South America 2010", stressing that it is a
national project which should involve the whole nation.
In an effort to
give this event a strong regional character both Navies are
negotiating with their counterparts in Brazil , Uruguay , Perú ,
Ecuador, Colombia(l), Venezuela(l) and Mexico(1), to join in the
organization efforts by encouraging them to involve one of their
ports as part of the project.
These
negotiations are currently at an advanced stage which has made
it possible to set a tentative start and finish date for "Velas
South America 2010".
The start date
has been set for the beginning of February 2010 from Rio de
Janeiro and will finish in Veracruz, México about the middle of
the following June 2010.

Este
encuentro y regata internacional de grandes veleros que ha
recibido el nombre genérico de "Velas Sudamérica 2010" surge de
una iniciativa conjunta de las Armadas de Argentina y de Chile.
Considerando la
importancia que tienen los océanos para el desarrollo de sus
respectivas naciones, ambas Armadas han acordado organizar la
componente marítima de las celebraciones que sus Armadas
realizarán durante el año 2010, con motivo del Bicentenario de
los acontecimientos patrióticos ocurridos en 1810.
Para dar forma a
este importante evento, se han conformado las respectivas
Comisiones, que han asumido el compromiso de llevar adelante, en
forma bilateral, el desafío de organizar el "Encuentro".
En este
trabajo conjunto, se ha considerado la incorporación de otras
instituciones nacionales y organizaciones civiles de sus
respectivos países, lo que permita dar al proyecto "Velas
Sudamérica 2010" un carácter convocante en la conciencia
ciudadana.
Simultáneamente,
en la búsqueda de darle al acontecimiento un fuerte carácter
regional, se están realizando negociaciones con sus pares de
Brasil, Uruguay, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia(1), Venezuela(1) y
México(1), para que se sumen a la organización del proyecto con
un puerto de su respectivo litoral marítimo.
Estas negociaciones se encuentran en un estado avanzado, lo que
nos permite adelantar que "Velas Sudamérica 2010" tiene fecha de
partida en los primeros días de febrero de 2010 en la ciudad de
Río de Janeiro, para finalizar en Veracruz a mediados de junio
del mismo año.
